Enter a Dutch licence plate to see official RDW registration data, plus a practical checklist before you buy. Nothing is stored.

What should you check before buying a used car in the Netherlands?

Start with the official registration. An RDW check confirms the make, model, first registration date, APK expiry and whether the odometer history is logical. Then inspect the car in person, read the maintenance record, and match the chassis number to the papers.

What does an RDW licence-plate check tell you?

It shows public registration facts: the vehicle type and body, colour, first registration, APK expiry, empty weight, fuel and emissions, whether transfer is possible, and whether an open recall is registered. It does not tell you the condition, the mileage history in detail, or the market value.

What does APK expiry mean?

The APK is the periodic Dutch roadworthiness test. The expiry date is the last day the current test is valid. If it has expired or expires soon, factor a new test, and any repairs it might require, into your decision.
